All 42 phonics sounds taught via 7 sound groups (satpin first); full CVC blending fluency; reads first decodable story.

New heart words: the, I, a, is, to.

Skill 2: CVC Word Mastery

Units 12–21 · 10 units · ~2 weeks.

All 5 short vowels automatic; CVC fluency 20+ words/min; s=/z/ plurals in context.

New heart words: was, of, do, you, said.

Skill 3: Consonant Digraphs

Units 22–29 · 8 units · ~1.6 weeks.

Skill 4: Consonant Blends

Units 30–39 · 10 units · ~2 weeks.

All beginning, ending, and 3-letter blends; blend+digraph combos (lunch, shrimp).

Skill 5: Glued Sounds & Spelling Basics

Units 40–44 · 5 units · ~1 weeks.

-ang/-ink families as chunks; floss rule; plural -s/-es with three sounds (ng first heard in Unit 1, Group 5).

Skill 6: Magic e

Units 45–52 · 8 units · ~1.6 weeks.

All CVCe patterns; instant CVC↔CVCe discrimination (hop/hope); knows the exceptions.

Skill 7: Open & Closed Syllables + Y

Units 53–57 · 5 units · ~1 weeks.

Open-syllable words (me, go, she); both sounds of y; the flexing strategy.

Skill 8: R-Controlled Vowels

Units 58–64 · 7 units · ~1.4 weeks.

ar or er ir ur to full automaticity; knows er/ir/ur share one sound (ar first heard in Unit 1, Group 7).

Skill 9: Vowel Teams (Long)

Units 65–74 · 10 units · ~2 weeks.

Skill 14: Prefixes & Final Mastery

Units 121–129 · 9 units · ~1.8 weeks.
