Wiggler Jr is operated by WIGGLER PRIVATE LIMITED, India. This policy sets out in full how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect information when you and your child use the Wiggler Jr app, our website, and related services. Accounts are held by a parent or guardian, who consents to this policy on their child's behalf.
This Privacy Policy describes how WIGGLER PRIVATE LIMITED, a company incorporated in India with its registered office in Bangalore, Karnataka ("Wiggler", "we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, stores, discloses, and protects information in connection with the Wiggler Jr mobile application, the wigglerjr.com website, and any related services, features, content, and customer support channels we make available (together, the "Service").
This policy applies to all users of the Service, whether you access it on a mobile device, a tablet, or through a web browser. It applies to information we collect directly from you, information generated automatically as the Service is used, and information we receive from the app stores through which the Service is distributed. It does not apply to any third-party website, application, or service that we do not operate, even where the Service links to it or references it.
Because the Service is designed for young children, the terms used in this policy carry specific meanings. "Parent" means the parent or legal guardian who registers for and controls an account. "Child" means the young learner who uses the Service under a parent's account and supervision. "Personal information" means information that identifies, relates to, or can reasonably be linked with an identified or identifiable individual, and includes what applicable Indian law describes as personal data and what applicable European law describes as personal data. "Processing" means any operation performed on personal information, including collection, recording, storage, use, disclosure, and erasure.
Wiggler Jr accounts are created and held exclusively by parents. Children do not register for the Service themselves, do not supply their own contact details, and cannot alter account settings. By creating an account, permitting your child to use the Service, and continuing to use the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy and that you consent to the processing described in it, both on your own behalf and on behalf of your child. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not create an account or allow your child to use the Service.
We may provide additional, more specific privacy notices at the point where particular information is collected, for example within a settings screen or a permission prompt. Where such a notice applies, it supplements this policy and should be read together with it.
Consent for a child's use of the Service is obtained from, and may be withdrawn by, the parent who holds the account. We rely on the parent's verifiable account registration, secured by a one-time code sent to the parent's phone number or by a federated sign-in with Google or Apple, as the mechanism through which that consent is given. Because sign-in requires control of the parent's phone number or third-party account, a child cannot complete registration independently.
Areas of the Service intended for adults are placed behind a parental gate. This includes account settings, profile management, subscription and billing screens, data export and deletion controls, external links, and customer support contact options. The parental gate is designed to prevent a young child from reaching adult functionality, changing account configuration, initiating a purchase, or leaving the app unsupervised.
A parent may withdraw consent at any time by discontinuing the child's use of the Service, by turning off optional features such as read-aloud practice, or by requesting deletion of the account and its associated information as described in the account deletion section below. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal took effect, and it does not extend to records we are required by law to retain. Where consent is withdrawn in part, for example only for voice features, the remainder of the Service will continue to operate.
Only one parent account is associated with a child profile at a time. We do not provide a mechanism for a child profile to be shared across unrelated accounts, and we do not knowingly permit a person other than the registering parent to obtain access to a child's learning records through the Service.
We collect only the information reasonably necessary to provide, maintain, secure, support, and improve the Service. We do not collect information for advertising purposes, we do not buy personal information from data brokers, and we do not enrich the information you give us with data purchased from third parties. The categories set out below are exhaustive as at the date of this policy; if we begin collecting a new category of information, we will update this section before or at the time that collection begins.
When a parent creates an account, we collect the parent's phone number, which functions both as the account identifier and as the means of authenticating sign-in, together with the parent or guardian's name. Where a parent chooses to sign in using Google or Apple rather than a phone number, we receive the email address associated with that account and a unique identifier supplied by the sign-in provider; we do not receive the password for that account, and we do not gain access to any other data held in it. We also record which sign-in method was used, so that we can direct you back to the correct method on your next visit and can investigate access problems if they arise.
For the child, we collect a first name and an age. The first name is used only so that the app can address the child by name and so that a parent managing more than one profile can tell the profiles apart. The age is used solely to place the child at an appropriate starting reading level and to select age-suitable lesson content. We do not request or require a child's surname, date of birth, residential address, school, class, teacher, photograph of the child, or any government-issued identifier. A profile picture may be selected from a set of illustrated characters provided inside the app; this is an in-app graphic, not a photograph of your child, and no camera or photo library access is required to choose one.
As a child uses the Service, the app generates a record of learning activity. This record is what allows the Service to adapt to the child and allows a parent to see meaningful progress rather than a bare completion count.
This information is inherently linked to a child's profile and we therefore treat all of it as personal information belonging to a child, subject to the protections described throughout this policy, regardless of whether any individual data point would identify the child on its own.
Some technical information is received automatically whenever the app or website is used, because it is necessary for the Service to function, to be delivered in a usable form, and to be kept secure. We collect the device type and model, the operating system and its version, the version of the Wiggler Jr app in use, general device settings relevant to display and audio, and the internet protocol (IP) address from which the Service is accessed. An IP address indicates an approximate location at the level of a city or region; we use it to route traffic correctly, to apply rate limits and abuse protections, and to understand broadly which regions the Service is used in.
We also collect crash reports and diagnostic logs, which describe the technical state of the application at the moment a fault occurred, including the sequence of screens or operations that preceded it. These reports are generated automatically and are used to identify and fix defects.
We do not collect precise or GPS-level location, we do not request location permission, we do not access your contacts, calendar, photo library, or files, and we do not collect or transmit the device advertising identifier. We do not use any advertising or attribution software development kit in the app, and we do not fingerprint devices for the purpose of tracking users across unrelated applications or websites.
Read-aloud practice is a core part of learning to read, and it requires the app to listen while a child reads. When a child uses a read-aloud or pronunciation activity, and only during those activities, the app records a short audio clip of the child reading the words shown on screen. The microphone is not open at other times, recording does not begin until the child starts the activity, and the operating system's own microphone indicator remains available to you as an independent signal of when audio is being captured.
How the audio is processed. Recordings are processed by our own speech recognition and pronunciation assessment systems, which run entirely on infrastructure we build and control (Google Cloud Run). No third party ever receives, stores, or has access to a child's voice recordings. We do not use children's voice recordings to train artificial intelligence models, we do not license or sell voice data, and we do not use voice data to profile a child for any purpose other than teaching reading.
Where the audio is stored. Recordings are stored in private cloud storage controlled by us, under access rules enforced at the storage layer, so that the recordings associated with an account are reachable only by that account. Recordings are not published, are not accessible through a public link, and are not indexed by search engines.
How long the audio is kept. Every recording is automatically and permanently deleted sixty days after it is created, without any action required from you. Within the parent progress report, a parent may choose to keep specific recordings in order to listen back to them and hear improvement over time; a recording marked in this way is retained until the parent deletes it individually or deletes the account. Pronunciation scores and the resulting progress history are retained as part of the child's learning record even after the underlying audio has been deleted, because the score, not the audio, is what drives the lesson path.
Automated processing. Pronunciation scoring is automated. Its only effect is educational: it determines which sounds and words are practised next and what appears in the parent progress report. It is not used to make any decision that produces a legal effect or a similarly significant effect for you or your child, it is not used for eligibility, pricing, or credit purposes, and it is not shared with schools, employers, insurers, or any other third party.
Voice features are optional. A child can use the reading lessons, phonics activities, and games without them, and a parent who prefers that no audio be captured may decline or revoke the microphone permission through the device's own settings, or simply not use those activities. Declining does not disable the rest of the Service.
Wiggler Jr is free to download. Where a paid subscription is offered, all payments are processed by the app store through which the app was installed, being Google Play or the Apple App Store, in accordance with that store's own terms and privacy policy. Payment is therefore handled entirely within the store's environment and under the store's own account credentials.
We never see, receive, or store your card number, bank details, card verification value, or billing address. What we receive from the store is limited to a purchase or entitlement confirmation indicating whether a subscription is currently active, the plan it relates to, its renewal or expiry date, and an opaque transaction identifier we can quote if you contact us with a billing question. Requests for refunds, chargebacks, and cancellation of automatic renewal are administered by the app store, because it, and not Wiggler, is the merchant of record.
If you contact us for help, we hold the message you send and our replies to it, along with the email address or phone number you contacted us from and any information you choose to include, such as a description of a fault, the device you are using, or a screenshot. We use this only to answer you, to reproduce and fix the problem you have reported, and to keep a record of the request in case you contact us again about the same issue. Please do not include information about your child beyond what is needed to resolve the matter, and please do not send us health, biometric, financial, or other sensitive information in a support message, as none of it is required.
The public wigglerjr.com website can be browsed without an account and without providing personal information. The website uses a general-purpose web analytics service to produce aggregate statistics about page visits, referring sources, approximate region, and device category, so that we can understand which pages are useful and whether the site performs correctly. These analytics operate on the marketing website only and are not present inside the Wiggler Jr app, where no child ever encounters them.
Cookies and similar browser storage are used on the website for strictly necessary purposes, such as remembering interface preferences and maintaining basic security, and for the aggregate analytics described above. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; doing so may affect how parts of the website display but will not prevent you from reading this policy or contacting us.
We use the information described above to deliver reading lessons, phonics activities, decodable stories, and word games; to provide pronunciation feedback during read-aloud practice; to assess a child's reading level and select the next appropriate lesson; to build and display the parent progress report; to create, authenticate, and secure the parent account; to make available and administer any subscription; to provide customer support and respond to your requests; to monitor the availability and performance of the Service and to diagnose and repair faults and crashes; to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, unauthorised access, and other misuse; to maintain the security and integrity of our systems; to understand in aggregate which features are used so that we can improve the curriculum and the app; and to comply with applicable law and to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
Where the law requires us to identify a lawful basis for processing, we rely on the following. We process account, learning, and voice information because it is necessary to perform the contract under which we provide the Service to you, and, in respect of a child's information including voice recordings, on the consent given by the parent who holds the account. We process device, diagnostic, and aggregate usage information on the basis of our legitimate interests in keeping the Service secure, reliable, and capable of improvement, having considered those interests against the privacy interests of users and having limited the data accordingly. We process payment confirmations to perform the contract and to comply with tax and accounting obligations. We process information to meet legal requirements where we are under a legal obligation to do so.
We do not display advertising of any kind in the Wiggler Jr app. We do not use a child's personal information for advertising, for building marketing profiles, or for measuring advertising performance. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We will not use the information we hold for a materially different purpose without first updating this policy and, where the law requires it, obtaining your consent.
Operating the Service requires a small number of specialist providers, each engaged to perform a defined function on our behalf and on our instructions. We do not name them individually in this policy, because the identity of a provider may change as we improve the Service and a published list would risk becoming inaccurate. Instead we describe the categories of recipient, which is what determines the actual privacy consequence for you. A current list of the providers we engage is available on request from the contact address below, and we will supply it within the response time stated in this policy.
Each provider receives only the information necessary for its function and is bound by a written contract that requires it to process information solely on our instructions, to keep it confidential, to apply appropriate technical and organisational security measures, to refrain from using it for its own purposes including model training, to assist us in responding to requests from parents and regulators, and to delete or return the information at the end of the engagement. We assess the security and privacy practices of a provider before engaging it, and we do not permit a provider to engage a further sub-processor without equivalent obligations being imposed.
Beyond these providers, we do not grant access to personal information to any third party except in the limited circumstances set out in the disclosure section below.
The Service is built for young children, and the design decisions behind it are as much a part of our privacy posture as this document is. A child using Wiggler Jr does not encounter advertising, cannot communicate with another user, cannot publish anything publicly, cannot open an external link without passing a parental gate, and cannot expose personal information through a free-text field that we retain for any purpose other than teaching reading. The account, and therefore control over the child's information, always rests with the parent.
We make and stand behind the following commitments:
The Service is not directed to children for the purpose of independent registration, and we do not knowingly permit a child to create an account without a parent. If we become aware that information relating to a child has been collected other than through a parent-held account, or without the consent required by applicable law, we will delete that information promptly and, where required, notify the relevant authority.
If you are a parent or guardian and you believe that we hold information about your child that was collected without your consent, or that you have not authorised, please contact us at hi@wigglerjr.com. We will investigate, delete the information where that is the appropriate outcome, and confirm to you in writing what we have done.
Information is held on established cloud infrastructure operated to recognised security standards. All traffic between the app or website and our systems is encrypted in transit using current transport layer security, and stored data, including voice recordings, is encrypted at rest by the underlying storage platform. We apply technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure, and unauthorised access, and we review those measures as the Service develops.
Those measures include, among others:
No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You also play a part: please keep control of the phone number or third-party account used to sign in, use a device lock on any device a child uses, and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorisation.
We retain personal information only for as long as it serves the purpose for which it was collected, or for as long as the law requires. The periods we apply are as follows:
Voice recordings — deleted automatically sixty days after creation, except for recordings a parent has expressly chosen to keep, which are retained until the parent deletes them or deletes the account.
Account records and child profiles — retained for as long as the account remains active, and deleted on request as described below.
Learning progress, scores, and activity history — retained for as long as the account remains active, so that a child's history and reading level are preserved across sessions and devices.
Crash reports and diagnostic logs — retained for up to ninety days, then deleted.
Support correspondence — retained for up to twenty-four months after a request is closed, so that we can deal with any follow-up.
Payment and subscription records — retained for the period required by applicable tax, accounting, and audit law, which may extend beyond the closure of an account.
Aggregate and de-identified statistics — may be retained indefinitely, as they no longer identify any individual and cannot be attributed back to a child.
When a retention period ends, information is deleted or irreversibly de-identified. Deletion propagates to routine backups within the ordinary backup cycle, which does not exceed thirty days beyond the deletion request.
We are established in India, and the providers that support the Service operate global infrastructure. Information may therefore be stored or processed on servers located outside the country from which you access the Service, including in jurisdictions whose data protection laws differ from those of your own. Read-aloud audio is processed on infrastructure we operate ourselves rather than by an outside processor, though that infrastructure may still run in a region other than the one you are in.
Wherever information is transferred, it remains subject to this policy and to the contractual protections we impose on our providers. Where a transfer is made from a jurisdiction that restricts international transfers, we rely on an appropriate transfer mechanism recognised by the law of that jurisdiction, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or the United Kingdom, together with an assessment of the safeguards applying in the destination. You may request further information about the mechanism applicable to a particular transfer by writing to the address in the contact section.
We do not sell personal information, we do not rent or trade it, and we do not disclose it for advertising purposes. We disclose personal information only in the following circumstances:
Aggregate or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be linked back to an individual, such as the proportion of learners who complete a particular lesson, may be shared more freely, including in research or educational material. We will not attempt to re-identify such information, and we will not disclose it in a form from which a child could be identified.
As the parent or guardian holding the account, you may exercise the following rights in respect of both your own information and your child's information. These rights are available to every parent, regardless of where you live, and we do not charge for exercising them or treat you differently for having done so.
To exercise any of these rights, write to hi@wigglerjr.com from the email address associated with your account, or from any address quoting the phone number used to sign up. We may need to take reasonable steps to verify that the request comes from the account holder before we act on it, since acting on an unverified request would itself be a privacy risk; where we cannot verify a requester, we will explain what further information is needed. We respond to requests within thirty days. If a request is unusually complex and we need longer, we will tell you within that period, explain why, and give you a revised timeframe.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional or differently framed rights. If you are in India, you may exercise the rights available under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, including the right to access a summary of your personal data and our processing, the right to correction and erasure, the right to nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity, and the right of grievance redressal through the officer identified in the contact section. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may exercise the rights available under the applicable General Data Protection Regulation, including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. If you are in California or another United States jurisdiction with comparable law, you may exercise the rights available under it, including the rights to know, delete, and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them; we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not process the sensitive information of a known child for any purpose other than providing the Service.
Step-by-step instructions, including how to delete your account without the app installed, are on our account deletion page.
You may delete your account and the information associated with it at any time. To make a request, email hi@wigglerjr.com from the email address on the account, or from any address together with the phone number the account was registered with, and state that you wish the account to be deleted. No reason needs to be given, and there is no charge.
Deleting the account permanently removes:
We complete deletion within thirty days of verifying the request, and confirm to you when it is done. Deletion is irreversible: a learning history, once deleted, cannot be restored, and a child who later returns to the Service will begin as a new learner. If you hold an active subscription, please also cancel it through the app store, since a subscription is administered by the store and deleting your Wiggler Jr account does not by itself stop store billing.
We may retain a limited set of records after deletion where the law requires it or where we have a compelling reason recognised by law, specifically payment and transaction records retained for tax, accounting, and audit purposes, records necessary to resolve a dispute or enforce our terms, and minimal security logs needed to protect the Service against abuse. Retained records are kept only for the period required, are not used to provide the Service or to contact you for marketing, and are deleted at the end of that period.
We maintain procedures for identifying, investigating, containing, and remediating a suspected breach of personal information, and we require our providers to notify us of an incident affecting information they process for us without undue delay. If a breach occurs that affects your or your child's personal information and is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify you and the competent authority in accordance with, and within the timeframes set by, applicable law. A notification will describe what happened, the categories of information involved, the steps we have taken, the steps we recommend you take, and how to contact us for further information.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, such as an app store listing, a support resource, or our own social media presence. Such links within the app are placed behind a parental gate, so that a child does not leave the app unsupervised. Once you follow a link, you are on a service we do not control, governed by that service's own privacy policy, and we are not responsible for its practices. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any third-party service before providing information to it.
We do not track users across other applications or websites, and we do not respond to browser Do Not Track signals differently from how we behave by default, because our default is not to conduct cross-site tracking at all. We do not build advertising or marketing profiles, and we do not use a child's information to make inferences beyond the educational assessment necessary to select the next lesson.
We may send a parent operational messages about the account, such as a sign-in code, a change to this policy, a notice about a security matter, or a reply to a support request. These messages are necessary to provide the Service and are not marketing. If we ever wish to send marketing communications, we will ask for your consent first and will provide a simple means of withdrawing it in every message. We do not send marketing communications to children, and we do not send push notifications designed to draw a child back into the app on a commercial schedule.
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect a change in the Service, in the providers that support it, or in applicable law. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and publish the revised policy at this address, which is the canonical location for the current version and is reachable from within the app and from the website footer.
Where a change materially affects how we handle personal information, particularly a child's personal information, we will provide additional notice to account holders before the change takes effect, by email or by an in-app notice, and, where the law requires consent for the new processing, we will obtain that consent rather than rely on your continued use of the Service. Your continued use of the Service after a non-material change takes effect indicates your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page from time to time.
If you have a question about this policy, wish to exercise a right described in it, want the current list of the service providers we engage, or wish to raise a grievance about how we have handled personal information, please contact us. We aim to acknowledge a grievance promptly and to resolve it within thirty days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter to the data protection authority or consumer protection authority competent in your jurisdiction. Nothing in this policy limits any right you have to approach such an authority or a court.
