A pronunciation that differs from the teacher's is usually an accent, not a mistake. The decoding rule is the same; only the target sound differs.

People in different places say some words differently. That is not wrong — it is just how they talk where they live.
English has several standard accents, and many words are pronounced differently in each. A child reading in their own accent has decoded correctly. Only mark an error where the child has read the wrong grapheme, not where they have produced a different but legitimate sound.
The decoding target is the child's own phonology, not a reference accent. Where a rule is stated with an IPA value, that value is the reference form; the child maps the grapheme to whatever their variety uses for that phoneme. The distinction that matters for assessment is between a phoneme substitution that is systematic across the child's speech — an accent — and one that appears only in reading — a decoding error.
water, dance, tomato, schedule
bath, grass, path, either, neither, tune, new, duke, route, either, vase, garage, advertisement
Correcting a child who reads path, dance, tune, water or either in their own accent.
They have decoded the word correctly. Correcting it teaches them that their family's speech is a mistake, which damages both confidence and the willingness to read aloud — and it tells you nothing about their decoding.
Check whether the child recognised the grapheme. If they read the letters correctly and said the word the way their community says it, that is a successful read.
When assessing decoding, listen for whether the child mapped the right grapheme, not whether the sound matched your own. If a substitution appears consistently in the child's ordinary speech as well as in reading, it is an accent feature and is not an error. If it appears only when reading, it is worth looking at.
